Melody Hill Shops and Apartments Proposed for Former School Site
Devco, Inc. has submitted a site plan for review for the former Melody School site on 220th St SW. Last July a pre-app was submitted for the project which, at that time, had 298 multifamily units and less than 15,000 square feet of commercial space. The new site plan has two 6-story mixed-use buildings with 464 apartments and over 70,000 square feet of commercial space. The project also includes 775 parking spaces, 151 of which are surface parking. The project would have vehicular access off 220th St SW and 222nd St SW with a drive aisle connecting the two between the two bulidings.
While Edmonds School District board has given preliminary approval of the sale to Devco, the site plan is in conflict with Sound Transit's preferred alternative for a future light rail station at 220th St SW. The 220th station is not currently funded but is a candidate project for ST3 and would not be constructed with the initial buildout of Lynnwood Link opening in 2023.
