City Council Selects City Hall Advisory Committee

During its meeting on Monday night, the Mountlake Terrace City Council confirmed its selection of the City Hall Advisory Committee discussed during Thursday’s meeting.

That committee consists of the following nine Mountlake Terrace residents: Stephen Barnes, Dustin DeKoekkoek, Chris Finch, Maggie Hyneman, Stan Lake, Rory Paine-Donovan, Linda Rogers, Vic Sood and Eiya Wolfe.

The council came to this selection after about an hour of deliberating how to best get an accurate representation of the city’s residents, making sure to include long-time residents, newer residents, women and people who had voted “no” on previous City Hall measures.

The purpose of the Committee is to assist in the development of options to construct a new City Hall on the vacant property at 232nd Street SW and 58th Avenue W (Civic Center) that is current being used as a staging area for city construction projects. The initial goal is to work with architects on a City Hall plan and make a recommendation to the City Council as it relates to the size and costs of this facility. The city also plans to have extensive community outreach and neighborhood meetings to receive city-wide input and answer any questions about this important project as part of the committee's work.

As one of the candidates who was selected to serve on the committee, I'm very excited and very eager to work with the other committee members on solution that the whole community can get behind. The committee consists of a diverse group of residents. These include both residents who have been supportive of past City Hall measures and those who have been critical. There are also some that have lived in MLT for a long while and some that are fairly new residents.

The committee's first meeting is scheduled for January 11 so stay tuned for more news and make sure you get involved in the process.
