Elements of Downtown Character

This graphic does an excellent job of describing the design elements of buildings, streets, and sidewalks that make a great downtown. downtown[1]

If you peruse through Mountlake Terrace's Town Center Design Standards you'll notice the City has done a great job including all of these elements. When you walk by Arbor Village at 236th/56th, the first project built using the City's standards, you know it's a environment built for people. Then walk by the mini-mart or auto shop across the street and you'll see why these design elements work. You can almost hear the built environment telling you "cars belong here, not people."
