Preferred Plan for Ballinger Park Presented

Over 50 interested citizens attended the Ballinger Park Master Plan meeting held July 14 to view the preferred plan for the park. City Council will review the plan at its July 30 and September 3 meetings with final approval tentatively scheduled for September 8.

The purpose of the Ballinger Park Master Plan is to create a clear and concise set of goals, policies and objectives that will provide direction to the city for future development, redevelopment and enhancement opportunities of the park.

Next steps include continued public outreach, City Council review and approval of the preferred plan, identification of capital needs, and funding strategies. “Once the preferred plan is reviewed and adopted by the City Council, staff may move forward on seeking grant funding to implement the plan,” said Recreation and Parks Director Jeff Betz.

At the first meeting, over 75 interested people attended to help shape the future of Ballinger Park. The 42-acre property was previously used as a municipal golf course and was converted to a passive park when golf course operators stepped away in 2012.

In June, citizens reviewed three plans and a presentation by the Berger Partnership outlining each feature. “These plans were used to facilitate discussion and select the most popular elements to lead to the preferred plan,” Betz said.
